In order to provide lectures from world-class international professors from many different countries the Mathematical Science Department contacted Arc with regards to upgrading their existing facilities. Following discussions with the university Arc found that in order to achieve their vision a fundamental redesign would be required to the ageing system currently employed.
The
ability to provide lectures in traditional board and OHP format needed to
be seamlessly integrated with more modern methods including Powerpoint,
Role Play and a lecture recording facility to offer a library of past lectures
on DVD / VCD and VHS.
Arc proposed a solution, which not only addressed all of the clients’ requirements but also gave the peace of mind that future upgrades to include Videoconferencing and Audio Conferencing could be integrated at a later date with substantial cost advantages.
The solution consisted of a 2m electric front projection screen and Sanyo projector, program sound via wall mounted speakers and voice reinforcement via an array of ceiling mounted microphones and speakers. Dual whiteboards are located either side of the main projection screen for traditional overhead projection.
A
Polycom Vortex mic mixer was employed to process the reinforcement and the
audio feeds to the recording side of the solution. A multi-region DVD and
two multi-standard VHS machines were employed.
The DVD and one VHS for playback and one VHS for the recording of the lectures, the video of which is captured by a Sony Evi-D video camera. Coupled with this is a state of the art AMX control system offering all the functions available for the individual machines and for the room environment.
Another smaller lecture room was upgraded at the same time with a Hitachi projector, a Multi-Standard VHS VCR and the reprogramming of an AMX Control System.
